    2024 Opening Day!

By HBCR Board 03/29/2024, 12:15pm EDT

The parade and ceremony have been postponed to Saturday, April 13th, 2024. See below for details.

HBCR is ready for our Opening Day festivities for the 2024 season!  We will start the day off with our annual parade to kick off the year!  All HBCR players are invited to attend with their teams!  HBCR also invites players with Hollis Rec Softball, Amherst, Milford and Wilton Baseball to attend!  There is usually a great turnout so expect lots of baseball and softball players!

    Important Parent Information:

PLAYER DROP-OFF LOCATION HAS CHANGED. It is now in the north side parking lot of the Hollis Brookline Middle School, refer to the map below. Drop-off should be between 9:00am-9:10am (Traffic along the parade route will be delayed during the parade, therefore please be prompt).  Players will meet up with their coaches/teams and prepare for the parade. Players should come dressed in full uniforms. Sneakers only for the parade please. Players can change into cleats for their games following the parade.

    Parking Options:

    1) Library Lot, 2) Monument Square, 3) Love Ln/ Middle School, 4) Cavalier Ct,

    5) Richardson Rd (1 side only), 6) Hardy North & South, 7) Orchard Drive (1 side only)

After dropping your player off, parents then drive to one of the locations indicated on the parking map provided and park your car there. Lawrence Barn parking lot is unavailable for our event as another event is going on at the same time. Parents should then stand along the parade route to watch and cheer for all the teams as they march, led by the Hollis band. The Parade route can be seen on the next page.

After the last team passes, all parents then follow the parade down into Waugaman Field to watch the opening ceremony! The ceremony is brief and includes the national anthem, an opening pitch, and some welcome messages.

After the Opening Ceremony, every uniformed player will get a free goody bag at a table set up next to the Snack Shack. It will then, finally, be time to play some baseball as the day continues.

The HBCR Snack Shack will be open and will be selling drinks and snacks. The Snack Shack accepts credit cards.

The parade is separate from your Opening Day game. Everyone marches in the parade and then most have a game scheduled at some point in the day.

LIVE STREAM!  Have out of town family/friends who can’t attend the parade?  No problem!  HBCR will be live streaming the parade and opening day festivities!  Have your family/friends follow the HB Cal Ripken Facebook page!  We will “Go Live” on Facebook at around 9:30am on Saturday the 13th.  Tell your players to waive when they pass the camera!

WE WANT PHOTOS!  Please send any photos/videos you take with us at playball@hbcalripken.org

WEATHER:  As of now the weather looks okay for this Saturday. Should anything change and force us to cancel the Opening Day Parade, we will send out an announcement and post to the HB Cal Ripken Facebook page.
